3) Agape Love concept

Oct 20, 10 3) Agape Love concept

Definitions: (from www.dictionary.com or Word dictionary)

Digress – wander away from the main topic

Agape – selfless love of one person for another without sexual implications (especially love that is spiritual in nature)

Enticement – temptation

So what does Love got to do with it? (or as my younger daughter used to sing when she was four years old, “Swots LOVE scotts to do wiv it, scotts to do wiv it” – her rendition of the 1980’s Tina Turner hit song, only had this one line – too cute, but I digress 😎 ).

Love has EVERYTHING to do with it.  If you aren’t familiar with what is sometimes referred to as the “Love Chapter”, in the New Testament (NT), this would be the time to read: 1 Corinthians 13, where the apostle Paul states in a nutshell: Anything and everything you do, unless you do it with “Agape”, unselfish Love or have unselfish Love as your motivation, is pointless – EVERYTHING.

This is the greatest and for humans, our hardest lesson.  Our lack of love for God and for others, is what was the original reason or enticement in the Garden of Eden, resulting in the fall of Adam and Eve so for us.  Without Love, our tendency is to ALWAYS hold ourselves up as more worthy than: other humans and God.

Agape Love forces us to reassess that.  Love takes the blinders off our eyes so we can see a situation more clearly and so we can act selflessly in that situation.  It wakes us up to the fact that: it isn’t about us.

God IS Love so He is our best example in living a Love-filled, expressed life.

God, hanging on a cross, buried under our sin, the evidence of our selfishness heaped upon his shoulders, still was able to look out over the jeering crowd, during his Crucifixion and say, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:24

And then Love chose to die on that cross, so we wouldn’t have to.
